Learning Approach
For 36 years, our mission has been to establish a foundation of lifelong learning by encouraging a child's natural love of learning through play.
Our Preschool, JR Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs are a blend of open-ended, STEAM learning opportunities and structured curriculum. Each classroom contains a variety of thoughtfully crafted Discovery Centres that support our curriculum. These centres are changed weekly and provide children with the opportunity to build confidence through independent decision making and exploration.
To further connect our students to the community, both local and global, we host special guests throughout the school year. Our past guests include local authors, a NASA Ambassador, presenters on bugs, animals and the Arctic to name a few.
Each class will have the opportunity to participate in school field trips throughout the year. We use a chartered bus and welcome parent volunteers (valid police check required).
STEAM
We incorporate a blend of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math into our program to help kids develop critical thinking and natural inquiry skills.
Students will have opportunities to explore engaging discovery centres and group activities.
Each week our Director, Mr. Walter, becomes "Captain Science" and engages students in a fun, hands-on science experiment.
Fine Arts
Our fine-arts program includes a blend of Music, Drama, Dance and Art. Not only do our students have a great deal of fun participating, but these focus areas help to expand literacy, fine-motor skills and teamwork.
We share what we've learned throughout the year by displaying artwork and hosting concerts for Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day and End of Year.
Literacy
We use the Jolly Phonics and Learning Without Tears programs as part of our reading and writing skills curriculum. These programs are a fun and engaging way to motivate young readers.
We also offer weekly Spanish classes for our Jr. Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes. In these classes children will be introduced to the Spanish language through songs, games and hands-on activities.
Movement
Movement activities are an important part of our program. Each class will participate in daily physical education in our large gym area or outdoors if weather permits.
Our movement activities involve games, yoga and a wide-range of gym equipment.
